Mesquite Software now offers hands-on CSIM training! In this comprehensive course, you will learn the basics plus inside tips and tricks for optimizing CSIM use. You'll also learn best practices to follow when programming discrete event simulations.
The CSIM course is a hands-on workshop that provides special emphasis on CSIM processes and simulation objects, data collection, probability distributions, and statistical issues. Participants work through exercises in class and also take home a detailed course reference manual and a student version of CSIM 19.
The 3-day course, entitled "Performance Modeling Using CSIM," includes 18 modules and covers the following topics:
Module 1 - Introduction
Module 2 - CSIM Processes
Module 3 - Simulation Time Management
Module 4 - Synchronizing Processes Using Events
Module 5 - Interprocess Communications using Mailboxes
Module 6 - Model Building Blocks: Facilities
Module 7 - Model Building Blocks: Storages
Module 8 - Performance Measures
Module 9 - Statistics
Module 10 - Instrumenting a Model
Module 11 - Workload Characteristics
Module 12 - Using Random Numbers in Modeling
Module 13 - Random Number Distributions
Module 14 - Running a Simulation
Module 15 - Confidence Intervals and Run Length Control
Module 16 - Bottlenecks and System Capacity
Module 17 - A Methodology for Successful Performance Modeling
Module 18 - Module Building Blocks: Buffers

"The 'Performance Modeling Using CSIM' class provided by Mesquite Software was impressive to all who attended. Prior to the class our input was solicited to insure topics important to our work were adequately covered. Dr. Brumfield did an excellent job presenting a class not only on CSIM, but on performance modeling in general. He covered all the expected material and then other material that we didn't even know to ask for. He was well prepared, extremely knowledgeable, and has a gift for presenting and teaching. Our training expectations for the class were exceeded. I cannot remember a time where I have learned so much in a two-day period in such enjoyable and comfortable surroundings - and my team described the same experience.
I would highly recommend this training for any team serious about performance modeling."

Included in course fee: Continental breakfasts, lunches, and morning and afternoon breaks. Course also includes Happy Hour with Dr. Herb Schwetman, founder of Mesquite Software and developer of CSIM (schedule and location permitting).
Instructor: Jeff Brumfield has been a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin for 22 years, where he currently serves as Associate Dean for Information Technology. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Purdue University. At the University of Texas, Dr. Brumfield has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses on operating systems, performance analysis, distributed systems, and data structures. He is the recipient of six teaching excellence awards.
Dr. Brumfield's research interests include discrete event simulations, bottleneck analysis, analytic solution of queuing network models, and performance of client/server systems. Dr. Brumfield has provided seminars, training, and consulting services to companies including IBM, Motorola, GTE, Cray Research, British Telecom, NCR, State Farm, SAIC, Charles Schwab, MCC, Mesquite Software, and Simulus.
Dr. Brumfield's contributions to CSIM include the implementation of the confidence interval and automatic run length control algorithms, the design and implementation of meters and boxes, the implementation of various random number distributions, the design of many of the performance reports, and the authorship of the related sections of the CSIM User's Guide.
